Marabou stork (Leptoptilos crumeniferus) is my guess. Why on earth would a bird have feathers all over except for it’s head and neck. possibly they girly birds like to see how thick a guys neck is before committing to chick raising. Perhaps they spend so much time with their head under water catching whatever they are eating an like to dry out faster. Perhaps like the vulture they are often found shoulders deep in Gnu intestines and can’t be bothered (or are totally incapable of) licking the mess off. Actually I have just had a quicker read i.e. slower that the first read, and discovered that the last of these options is the truth of the matter. My advice to you Simon is DO NOT LIE DOWN IN FRONT OF ONE OF THESE AND PLAY DEAD. They will eat anything and apparently if you are small enough you do not even have to be dead before they will have a go at you. Apparently they will eat you shoes and have been known to kill small children if they refuse to give up their footwear.

Crikey chaps, glad I had my telephoto on for this one. And these are the birds that “deliver” new born babies? Yeah right!

Aunty, are you saying I should do a scientific experiment on this theory?

NO! It might take a peck or “nip” (as in nippers for trimming toenails!!!!!) of yours…toenails I mean. Auntie Jo’s Toes.
